Transparent Tea-Bagging

Some folks in the hood and elsewhere had some good points to make about today's astro-turf events. I'll give you the links in a sec.

First, I have a little something to add. I'm glad that activism is in fashion again. I miss the 60s protests. Those events featured good music, some political ranting, (sprinkled with truth and relevance), a number of flavors of boon's farm apple wine and reasonably good weed.

I can't remember leaving one unhappy. (OK, I can't remember leaving a lot of them, but I know I did, cause I'm here now)

Anyway... If these folks ending up feeling better after going out today to speak their piece; great! I think they're almost completely misguided and clueless, but our parents felt the same way about us in the 60s.

I'm going to have to look at TeaBagging (tell me, how fucking clueless do you have to be to not know what this means?) the same way I look at gay-marriage. It won't effect me one bit.

It is of course somewhat ironic ( insert under-stated smirk) that these folks are not protesting the bank bailouts, AIG bonuses, or the pass we've given the filthy and now even filthier rich the last few decades, but I digress. I mean, I mean, (Alice's restaurant now playing in the background) I mean... if you want to protest taxes. I mean really protest taxes, not just carry around a sign and yell shit at nobody in particular, shouldn't you at least NOT PAY your taxes.

In the sixties (I know you're getting sick about hearing about this era) women burnt their bras and guys burnt their draft cards. Lots of folks went to Canada. Hey, that's the ticket. I got it. I recommend that the teabaggers (Beavis and Butthead chuckle) move to Canada. They can go about preaching the gospel of conservathink to the Canucks. That'll work for sure.

There, solved that. Oh, check out Jay, Dianne and Matt-Man for their take on the Teabaggers. OK, I didn't giggle this time. If you say it ten times it gets less funny, honest. Try it.

Teabaggers, Teabaggers, Teabaggers....

After reading Dianne's which I contemplated all morning to respond and finally did, I saw your comment and immediately came here. You bring up such a good point that this is something that I to have missed. The activism is truly great and I'm glad they are doing it. But their topic...truly stupid.

But of course the democrats are going to pounce on this and drive it into the ground. I agree with you in that why aren't they doing it about the bailout, AIG etc. Now that would be something to fucking protest. Or what about a Secretary in the Obama Administration not paying his/her taxes? But let's forget about that.

Burn their bra's or draft cards, head on up to Canada...it makes me feel good that at least they did something.

Thom: OK, but did this make you laugh just a little?

I wonder, do they really not know what teabagging means? or are they using it on purpose?

I'm laughing

but I'm also not and here's why

I maintain that there is a deep hatred of dark skinned people in this country, it was always there and got worse after 9/11 - after all - African, Arab, Mexican - they're all dark and that is what matters to many of the kind of people who are using taxes as their latest way to be hateful

they are scared to death that there is dark skin in power - which is pitiful since Obama is so fucking moderate

they are convinced that enough dark people got together and managed to elect him that they're only a NASCAR race away from having their towns taken away by bus loads of rappers

gun sales sky rocket

Obama is the most threatened president ever

and I find this country heartbreaking - again and still

Dianne: I think we worry more for him than he does for himself.

I get the impression he's just going about his business being the President.

I know there are some seriously bigoted people out there, but I don't believe they are in the majority of the minority. (if you can follow that logic)

Most people are willing to give the guy a chance, but the Republicans have found a new scare tactic and that's money and taxes.

In their one and only defense; he's picked a questionable group for economic advisors and money is literally being flushed down the drain of the Too Big Too Fail financials.

With all the folks out there hurting like they are we shouldn't be surprised that the galling opportunists will take whatever advantage they can.

Be of stout heart girl, the current resident of the White House is comfortable being a black man in charge of a passel of honkys, he is doing just fine.

Imagine if McSame were attempting to fix the economy, or re-establish our reputation in the world.

In spite of the hate and ignorance he'll do just fine. And it's OK that folks don't like everything he does. Why should they?

After all, the buck stops with him.

I have tea every day at 4:00. I don't know what my wife does with the bags.
I think you handled this well. I read the other three blogs you referred to lots of anger tere.
People can be different from us withoit being evil or stupid. Why the fact that others have different opinions causes such anger escapes me.

Matt-Man: Thanks for coming by and see ya again I hope.

Dr. John: So as not to appear to even handed here I should say that having Dianne and Jay get it off their respective chests saved me the trouble. It allowed me to take a more humorous tangent.

I think folks are upset at the overt manipulation and fear mongering that is at the root of the current right wing protests.

When you view the kind of mindless bigotry expressed in some of the signs at the events, it's very discomforting.

To some degree or another we've all been played as pawns by the powerful organizations and people of this and other countries.

On the left they can see it easily in those on the right. On the right they can see it or invent it for those on the left.

In the end, the middle is left to deal with what the extremes stir up. This gives cover for the powers that be to do whatever they want with our economy, our culture and our country.

Ergo...our present dilemma

A little yes I laughed...quite humorous in many ways :)

What I fail to see is the race card being played against him. I don't see that at all. What the hell does race have to do with this?

I'm sure you or Dianne will make sure to point out the race issue, but I can only hope that it isn't the issue here. If it is, that's disgusting

Thom: I have seen some racial slants on the signs and posters, but not as much as during the election campaign. I believe that there is a racial subtext that still exists in our political dialogue that remains inescapable. I am likewise saddened by this.

On a more another note: I believe we should criticize the current president for his policies and statements in which we do not believe.

But not on BS issues.

The birth certificate issue and his middle name are irrelevant.

His multi-racial and multi-cultural background are assets in my opinion.
